Ash's Kanto Journey My Version Chapter 8Chapter 8: Path of a Pokemon Trainer"Human Speech""Pokemon Speech"'Telepathy' We joined our heroes as they were on the road heading towards Vermillion City with two badges in hand, the Boulder Badge and Cascade badge, and were having lunch. "Now, we are heading into unknown territory; given that we are past the first two gyms, do you know any others past here?" Ash asked Misty and Brock, who nodded. "I know the Saffron City gym leader, Sabrina, as she has been a good friend of mine and has been getting more with her family. Don't let her appearance fool you. She's getting to make friends well now," Brock said to Ash. "I know two gym leaders. One is a brand new one that was added to the group of Kanto gym leaders; the one we are going to fight is one of them, Lt. Surge," Misty said to Ash, who was surprised by this. "He's a family friend, like Sabrina, whom I've met before. He has refined his battle style since facing your brother." Misty said. "I am familiar with Surge as well. I have seen him in battle, and that's when he started showing respect to his challengers. I have also met his Raichu in the past, and he's pretty nice when he's not battling," Ash said to Misty, who nodded. "And the other Misty?" "That would be Janine; she took over for the newest member of the Elite Four of our region," Misty said to the group, who was taken aback. "You mean Koga? I heard that he gave it to her once he accepted that role as his gym was in the middle of nowhere in the forest, nowhere near Fushia city," Brock said to Misty, who nodded. "I met Janine before her father retired to be a gym leader. She's still new and is worried she won't be able to fill what her father would now. I met her a year ago, and she's still using the same typing that her father uses," Misty said. Ash nodded as he noticed that his Pokemon had finished eating. Riolu and Charmander immediately began training with each other, which made Ash chuckle. "You know, since we're on this route, there should be some trainers for you to work with your team," Brock said to Misty and Ash, who turned to him. "Misty, you're not a gym leader anymore, and you and Ash are both beginner trainers now," Brock said to the two, who nodded. "I think it's only fair, Ash, that as trainers, we are responsible for keeping our Pokemon in good shape," Misty said to Ash, who nodded. "As long as we don't get overconfident by the wins," Ash said to Misty, who nodded as Riolu and Flare heard this and were ready to fight by Ash's side. Ash and Misty had faced several trainers one by one. Some of them had started using new Pokemon and were performing well. During one of Ash's battles, he faced a trainer with Zigzagoon with Ash's Riolu. Even though Riolu had a type advantage, Zigzagoon still put up a good fight. "Now, Iron Tail and Blaze Kick," Ash commanded her, who landed both attacks on the Normal type, knocking it out as the trainer ran over to his Pokemon. This marks five wins for both Ash and Misty. "I must say, you trained that Pokemon well in the short time it was on your team," Ash said to the boy, who nodded. "No argument, Ash. He battled well despite being new to battling under you," Riolu said to the two. "I must say you both are on another league of trainers, that's for sure," the boy said to Ash and Misty, who nodded as he noticed that Misty had two badges on her bag. "I assume that both of you have two badges, and I'm confident that you can defeat AJ." the boy said to the two, curious about who he was. "AJ is a trainer who has his gym nearby and has never been defeated; he's strong while showing that he cares about his Pokemon. Maybe you can either beat him or give him a good battle." "Well, we might as well give him a chance to fight us; after all, we are on a role so far, though I wonder how strong you are talking about?" Misty asked everyone, who nodded. "You'll see when you get there. It's over there," the boy pointed in the direction to the west of them as the group went that way. Ash and the others made it to the building with a wooded gate and a sign stating that it wasn't with the Pokemon league; however, the sign showed the wins being 98, losses 0, and ties being 1, to beat 100 trainers to take on the league challenge which surprised the group as that was strong. "Wow, he wasn't kidding about how strong he is just by the sign there, and that's a pretty good goal for a trainer, minus it might tire out the Pokemon," Ash said to Misty and Brock, who nodded. "I ensure that they are taken to the Pokémon Center. I appreciate your concern, kid," a voice called out as a boy with greenish-black hair stood up, wearing a shirt with orange and black coloring. "I have taken that you two are here to battle me?" the boy said to the group. "My name is Ash, and these are my friends Misty and Brock. Misty and I want to challenge you to a friendly fight," Ash said to AJ, who nodded. "Hmm, I'll give you credit for being different from my last opponent, who tied with me while being arrogant," AJ said to Ash and Misty, who nodded. Ash had a feeling about whom AJ was talking about as they got inside. Butterflies were coming to take AJ's backpack inside the tent. "Wow, they seem well-trained!" Misty said to AJ, who smiled at this. "Thanks, miss, and I will say this: if you want to see the rest, you can after our battle, I'm hoping to make my 100 wins with both of you, but with you two facing against me, of course at the same time," AJ said to Ash and Misty who was taken aback by this. "There are no rules in this gym, and besides, I'm not afraid to face off against more than one trainer," AJ said to Ash and Misty, who sighed and nodded. Ash and Misty were in one trainer's box, while AJ was in another box opposite theirs. "Two-on-one if that is going to be alright with you two," AJ said to Ash and Misty, who nodded as Latias and Latios were beside Brock, as did Flare, as Riolu was beside Ash, wanting to battle in this as she was on a role as she ran out to the battlefield. "Humph, a fighting type I'm familiar with, this Pokemon is not a bad catch; Sandslash, come on out," AJ sent out his Pokemon. "Buizel, come on out," Misty also sent out her Pokemon beside Riolu, as the two were fine battling as allies. "Now, let's get this battle started. Shall we you two start," AJ said to Ash and Misty, who nodded. "Buizel uses Water Gun now," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who fired that attack at the ground type. "Gyro Ball, Sandslash, get in there," AJ commanded his Pokemon, who was in at the water type attack as it didn't look like it was doing much damage to it, which was heading towards Buizel. "Brick Break, Riolu, help Buizel," Ash commanded her, who slammed right into Sandslash with her paw. It was sent to the ground. Sandslash's resilience took Buizel aback. It's clear that Sandslash is a force to be reckoned with. "Not bad, you two. You are showing a much better battle than my last few challenges, but I won't let this get to us. Sandslash uses Sandstorm," AJ commanded his Pokemon, who whirled up a stream of sand as Buizel and Riolu were wondering where Sandslash went. "Calm down, you two, and try to sense where it was," Ash said as they calmed down and tried to sense where it was. Even though Riolu didn't have aura sight working well, it could still help sense something. "Crush Claw now, Sandslash," AJ commanded his Pokemon, who charged at them from the other side of the Sandstorm. "Aqua Jet, Buizel," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who used the move to escape. "Blaze, Kick Riolu, counter it," Ash commanded her, who slammed her legs at Sandslash and caught in mid-air. "Iron Tail now," Ash commanded her, who slammed her tail into the Pokemon as the Pokemon went back into the sand. "I understand why he's won many battles, but we must eliminate the Sandstorm." Ash thought and remembered what Misty did in their gym battle. "Hey Misty, do you think using Aqua Jet and Sonic Boom together could get rid of the Sandstorm?" Ash asked Misty, who was taken aback. "I never used that like that in a weather condition, Ash, but we can try it," Misty said to Ash, who nodded as she turned to Buizel. "Sonic Boom and Aqua Jet aim it on the ground, Buizel," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who knew what she meant. "Riolu, don't get mad at me if your fur gets wet. That's something I can't handle," Buizel said to Riolu, who nodded and was okay with it. Buizel used the two moves, and her tail was spinning the water all over the battlefield, clearing the Sandstorm. AJ was impressed. "Now's our chance; use Shadow Claw and Brick Break," Ash commanded Riolu, who charged in at Sandslash. "Aqua Jet, now Buizel," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who charged in at the ground type as something was off with this. It seemed like AJ was holding something back, which Flare noticed. "It's a trap. You two get them out of there," Flare said to Ash and Misty, who were surprised as it was too late as the two landed their moves on Sandslash. "Checkmate Counter now, Sandslash," AJ commanded his Pokémon, whose claws glowed and slammed into the two opposing Pokémon, knocking them out. Ash and Misty were taken aback by the swift victory. Sandslash was panting heavily as the wins were at 100. AJ cheered upon achieving his goal as Ash and Misty rushed to their Pokémon to check on them. "You two did well out there; I wasn't expecting Counter to be a move that Sandslash could use in this battle," Ash said to Riolu and Buizel, who nodded and didn't blame the loss at all as AJ walked over with Sandslash. "Well, you two, I must say you have battled much better than any of the other trainers I've faced in the past few weeks, and to think that you managed to get out Counter like that, as you two are showing why you two have gym badges," AJ said to Ash and Misty who sighed and nodded. "Come on, I'm being nice to you two. This win wasn't easy. You two would have probably won that match if it had been another move." AJ said to Ash and Misty. "Sadly, Riolu only knows moves that Counter can be used against," Ash admitted to AJ, who shrugged and nodded in understanding. "As promised, I will show you my Pokémon since I'll be taking them with me on my journey through Kanto," AJ said as they entered the tent and noticed how everyone was training. While it looked harsh, they were getting more vital as Latios and Latias were angry. 'How can you treat your Pokemon like this? Do you think this is training? They are being mistreated,' Latias said as AJ let her talk as she revealed herself out of invisibility. "I have undergone legal standard training from the league due to some of my actions. However, my actions have helped the league get rid of bad trainers who were even worse than me. I believe your brother is next to you, Ms. Latias. I have heard stories about the presence of Latios and Latias in this region. I had no intention of capturing you both because you are already with trainers," AJ said as Latias calmed down. "Stand down, Latias. I hate to say it, girl, but he's right," Brock said to Latias, who calmed down. "These Pokemon appear healthy and well-cared for, as evidenced by Sandslash's performance in battle," Brock told Latias, who sighed and nodded while Latios and Flare listened. Flare admitted Brock's statement was true, and AJ had a point. "You're correct, Brock. I don't starve my Pokemon or force them to work for their food. I don't engage in poaching, either. I use them to fight alongside me during battles and only when Sandslash is injured or needs assistance. The Butterfree you saw earlier was rescued from poachers not too long ago. Sandslash is my very first Pokemon," AJ said to the group. "I have a question: Why is the 100-win mark not extreme even though you earned it now? That must've been rough with the tie against Gary Oak." Ash said to AJ, who nodded. "So you know the boy who tied me, yeah, he was so smug and arrogant that he tied and called it a loss anyway, even when he battled well; while he does show respect to his Pokemon, he wasn't interested in losing or tieing in battle," AJ said to Ash and the others. "I've known Gary for a while, and while he is similar to his older brother, he's more respectful to his rivals nowadays, given that he's seen how losing to a rival can be," Ash said to AJ, who nodded. "I wanted to prepare my Pokémon for the upcoming gyms and leagues. My goal was to prove that my Pokémon are the strongest of all. As you may have noticed earlier, my Sandslash could withstand your Water Gun attack without taking much damage. I have trained him to do so without causing too much harm. The pool we battled in is shallow enough to prevent serious injuries but deep enough to provide a good training environment. My parents taught me how to raise and train Pokémon properly," AJ said as he showed a fridge of Pokemon food. "Your parents are Breeders, aren't they, AJ," Brock said to AJ, who nodded. "Yep, the Daycare down the road belongs to them. I got Sandslash from them. However, I'm still worried about my Pokemon. I haven't used most of them, and I'm unsure if they will continue the journey," AJ said to Ash. Everyone as his Pokemon was looking at him in understanding. Many of them told him they were grateful that he took them in. Although they dislike the training methods, they appreciate that AJ cares for them. Latios translated this to AJ, who sighed with relief, thinking his Pokemon were angry with him. "It would be helpful if you could go easy on the training and not force moves or use counter early in the battle. If you do this, I believe we could win quicker," Sandslash said to AJ, who nodded. "We may have different approaches to raising Pokemon, but we share the same goal as trainers. Our Pokemon still trust and follow us towards that goal," Misty told AJ that Latias and Latios agreed to this, as did Ash and Brock. The group was outside the wooded building as AJ packed his Pokemon in their balls, ready to head in the opposite direction. " I'll head to Pewter first and then head towards Vermillion. If you keep following this road, you'll also pass by a Pokemon School on the way, " AJ said to Ash and the others. Ash looked down, which everyone noticed, but let it be for now. "I won't be staying in Vermillion for long because I was invited to a tournament on the SS Ann. They are still accepting trainers for the tournament and party, so you should go to the Pokemon Center and ask Nurse Joy for one when you arrive," AJ said. "We'll try to ask them, and then we'll hopefully meet you there," Ash said to AJ, who nodded as he left, as did Ash and his friends. "I am surprised that you handled that situation well, Ash, as well as Latios and Flare," Misty said to Ash, Flare, and her Latios, who turned to her. "I have seen him do a good job as a trainer. I believe what Latias told him is true, but he didn't make any excuses. You saw how his Pokemon reacted to what he told us," Ash said to Misty. "I believe Latias already made it clear, but I must say that you also handled the situation well. Some Pokemon are very selective when choosing their trainers, and they do so for a specific reason. You can tell that they are more than willing to battle for their chosen trainer and are not just wild creatures," Flare said to Ash and the others. 'I wanted to observe how his Pokemon responded to his training style without jumping to conclusions like my sister did earlier. I must admit that I can now understand what you all meant when you said that his approach to training differs from that of poachers or bad trainers,' Latios said telepathically. The group understood as Misty looked to Ash, as did Latias. "Hey Ash, I noticed that you looked down when AJ mentioned the nearby school. Is everything okay?" Misty asked Ash, who turned to her. "I attended that school to become a Pokemon trainer, but their methods are outdated for non-Kanto Pokemon," Ash said to Misty, who was taken aback. "It's called the Pokemon Technical Institution," Ash said. "I have also heard of that school, Ash. I had a guidebook to it when I was younger, but how outdated could it be?" Misty asked Ash. "Well, they use levels and don't care about Pokemon typings regarding battles. Some of the Pokemon stuff so far back that moves that Spearow, Flare, even Beedril would fly past them," Ash said to Misty, as it sounds like Ash has even more experience with them. "This school is designed to help trainers progress beyond gyms and reach the league, provided they have high enough grades. However, my mother withdrew me from the school after a member of the student council bullied me." Flare and Riolu were growling upon hearing that, as they knew that Ash had a rough past regarding his older brother's achievements, but someone who bullied him got them angry. Even Flare's tail flame flared from it. Ash sighed as the group noticed that a fog had come in suddenly. "Huh? The weather didn't call for fog. What is going on?" Misty told Ash, and the others noticed a group of children near a treadmill. Ash ran over to them as he realized what was happening."Ash," Misty was worried about what was happening as the group ran after him. "I hope this isn't what I think it is because I've dealt with something similar at school." Ash thought to himself as he arrived where the kids were. They were grilling the kid about Pokemon, mainly about Pidgey, and showing how far behind the school was compared to what the boy said. "Come on, you are forcing more questions about the Pokemon that you are making it harder for me to answer the questions," the young boy said to the three other boys who were ready to speed up the treadmill. "Okay, that's enough. Leave the young boy alone; this is the worst type of study and testing someone should do," Ash said to the group, who turned to him as the young boy got off the treadmill. "What's it to you, kid? Mind your own business. This is Pokemon School business, not yours?" One of the bullies said to Ash, who let them talk, not taking any of their taunts or excuses from them. "Hey, doesn't he look familiar?" One of the others said to the others who were questioning who Ash was. "You sure don't remember me, do you, given that you did the same to me a few years back when I started school, or should you let Gisselle know that her bully bag is here? She'll know who I'm talking about," Ash said to the group as Flare, Riolu, and the others ran over to Ash and the others as the group noticed Riolu. "Say, what is that Pokemon? And I think that is a makeup Pokemon," one kid said to the group, especially towards Riolu. "This just shows how behind your school is. This is a Fighting type called Riolu, while her species is from Sinnoh. Still, she Originates from her Kanto in a little-known Kingdom called Cameron. Maybe you've heard about it and the so-called legendary person called Sir Aaron and his Lucario, this is its pre-evolve form," Ash said as the group, who was taken aback as they heard of it, thought it was a rumor as they looked at each other and knew what Ash said is true and left him and the kid alone either to do things on their own or go find their Studen Council member. "Thanks for that. I'm fully aware of the new stuff going when it comes to Pokemon, but as you said, they're so behind the times that they won't listen; by the way, my name is Joe," Joe said to the group, who was curious as Ash knew what he meant. "Never thought I would encounter a non-Kanto Pokemon here, huh?" "Pleasure to meet you, and I can tell what you are saying just by their response towards Ash and me," Riolu said, puffing her chest out as Ash chuckled. "I'm still new to this place, and while I do know answers, I either get test anxiety or harder questions," Joe said as the group headed towards the school as the fog lifted. "I can relate to students' struggle when the questions are too difficult or beyond what has been taught in class. It's one of the reasons why I decided to leave school. Although I have some knowledge on the subject, I would often freeze up during quizzes or make mistakes while studying battles from the past," Ash said to Joe and the others, who were now grasping the whole situation. "They would be surprised to learn that Pidgey can learn moves beyond the set and about the Steel and Dark types," Ash said. "And who is the Gisselle girl? She sounds like she's the type to get what she wants?" Misty asked Ash and Joe. "I can tell them for you, Ash, as I see her more than as a classmate," Joe said to the group. Ash knew what he meant by that. "Giselle is not just the student body president but also the top-ranked student of the school. She has achieved the rank of a trainer with three gym badges, has a vast knowledge of advanced Pokemon levels battle strategies, and considers Pokemon to be mere numbers. Her know-it-all attitude is evident to most students in the school," Joe said. Everyone was surprised and could tell what Ash meant by the way behind the school. "Wow, we don't use levels or treat Pokemon like that as they are our friends, not just someone used to battle. You weren't kidding about the whole this place is behind the times," Misty said to Ash and Joe as Flare and Riolu were not happy to hear how the school sees Pokemon. "Professor Oak had expressed his desire to educate the school about the significance of Pokemon or assist in bringing them up to speed. However, if I recall correctly, it wasn't feasible due to budget constraints. It's worth noting that newer Pokemon weren't introduced until four years ago," Ash said to the group, who looked down as they were interrupted by a female voice called out. "Well, look who came crying back after he failed the school and couldn't take how we run things in this school spreading lies as well. Are we Ash Ketchem?" the group turned to the voice as it was a girl who looked to be important in the school. "Gisselle, so the rest of your lackeys went to find you, huh?" Ash said to her as Riolu and Flare growled at her as she laughed. "Now's not the time, you two. We don't want to get kicked out of here or threatened by the league, as this place has connections to it," Ash said to the two who stopped. "I agree that there are more Pokemon out there, but it's too complicated to learn about. You won't be able to convince me either way, and it seems like you're being hypocritical," Gisselle said to Ash. "I don't need to prove anything to you, Gisselle," Ash said to Gisselle, who was taken aback by this. "My Pokemon are not just tools to win battles. They are my friends. If you think otherwise, let's battle and see who comes out on top. I won't tolerate any bullying, and I won't stand by while you spread misinformation. I've been a trainer for over two months, earned two badges, and already have five Pokemon," Ash said to Gisselle, who was taken aback by how much Ash had had enough of her. "Humph, this is why you will never be better than your brother, Ash," Gisselle said to Ash, who closed his eyes. "What did you do to get those two gym badges, bibe, or get lucky to get them? You should have more Pokemon than that, and from the looks of your Charmander here, it looks like it's still in its beginning stage moves," Gisselle said as Flare was getting mad by this. "From what I remember hearing, Red already had a Charmeleon and almost 20 Pokemon. You are not as skilled as your brother and have been hiding in his shadow," Gisselle laughed. "Say's Green's little sister," Ash retorted as Gisselle shut up upon hearing that. "What did you say? How did you know that?" Gisselle said to Ash. "I'm not going to get involved in family matters. You are becoming less like her. Sure, she was attractive, but at least she cared about the people she met and her competition. We're finished here if you're finished talking and can't support your statements. Unless you want to argue and show how wrong you are and how outdated and behind the school is," Ash said to Gisselle, who glared at him as Flare and Riolu were behind Ash. "Fine, given how your two Pokemon here are willing to fight me, let's make it a 2v2 battle," Gisselle said to Ash, who nodded as both were in the trainer's box on the battlefield in the school room. "I'll start Graveller. Come on out," Gisselle sent out her first Pokemon as Riolu stood before Ash, who nodded. "I'm aware from what the others told me that your Pokemon is a Fighting type, not like that it matters; Graveller uses Earthquake to show them how strong you are," Gisselle commanded her Pokemon, who sent shockwaves on the ground. "Jump out of there, girl, and then use Brick Break and Shadow Claw," Ash commanded, whose two arms glowed and slammed right into the rock/ground type who grabbed her to stop her from doing more damage. "Given how fighting types are more reliant on their arms, you might as well give up as I'm about to make it harder for her to fight back," Gisselle said to Ash, not knowing Riolu's moves. Then again, she never faced any of the moves that Riolu knows. "Now, Seismic Toss, and then Rock Throw," Gisselle commanded her Pokemon, who was about to use its moves. "Not so fast. Use Iron Tail before it can use those," Ash commanded her, who slammed her tail right into Graveller. Gisselle was taken aback as it did a lot of damage to it. Riolu got out of its grip and landed in front of Ash. "Given how that move is super effective against Rock-types, you are behind the times, Gisselle. I hope the students are watching cause they are going to see how behind the school is," Ash said to Gisselle, as many of the students were indeed watching this. "Shut up, you are going to regret saying that. Explosion now, Graveller," Gisselle commanded her Pokemon as Ash ran over to Riolu and covered her from the damage. He knew that she wouldn't be able to take it all, showing that Ash cared about his Pokemon as Gisselle, and everyone was surprised by this. Thankfully, Ash wasn't too damaged by this, as Graveller was out cold. "What, why did you do that? It's just a Pokemon. Why are you so protective of it?" Gisselle asked Ash, who brushed himself off. "Cause they are more than just that to me. They're my friends, and you'll never understand that my Pokemon went through more than that, as some were either taken here by Poachers like Team Rocket or wanted to join my team. You want them to battle cause you wanted them to. I'm letting them battle 'cause they wanted to," Ash said to Gisselle, who was listening to this and shutting up. "Now, are we going to continue, or are you going to run away given that you are being shown as the School Bully as you did back when we both went here," Ash said to Gisselle, who humphs. "You have a mouth to think that I see you beneath me because you don't see how things are here. You are so ignorant, and I'll show you how pathetic you are," Gisselle pulled out her Pokeball. "Marowak, come on out," Gisselle sent out her next Pokemon as Ash recognized. "So your Cubone evolved the last time I saw it," Ash said to Gisselle, who nodded as Flare took in place of Riolu as Riolu was beside Ash. "Flare told me she'll handle the next Pokemon. I got my part. Now it's her part," Riolu said to Ash as she was putting her rivalry with Flare behind to help Ash, who nodded. "Alright, Flare, use Flamethrower," Ash commanded her, who fired the attack at Marowak, who spun its club to block it, though it did some damage. "I thought that you would only use Ember by this point. Oh well, Marowak, use Bone Rush," Gisselle commanded her Pokemon, who charged it at Flare. "Dragons Dance and then Dig," Ash commanded her, who sped herself up and jumped underground quickly. "How? What was that move that she used? Not that it matters. Use Bubblebeam on the hole." Gisselle fired the attack in the hole where Flare was as she got out of the ground before it could hit her. "Dragon Claw now, Flare," Ash commanded her and slammed her claw right into Marowak, who blocked it with its club. "Counter and Bonemerang," Gisselle commanded her Pokemon, who used its club to slam Flare off to the side and tossed its bone at her, hitting her and sending her to Ash's side. "This battle is over," Gisselle said, thinking she'd won, only to see Flare getting up, refusing to back down. "How is it possible that she wasn't knocked out by such super effective damages, given her low level at this stage?" Gisselle said as Flare roared at her, who was startled. "Flare, you okay? Are you sure that you want to continue? I could use Riolu," Ash was interrupted by Flare. "And let her get away with all this. No, thank you, Ash," Flare said, not in an angry tone but in a way that showed that she cared for Ash as he was her friend. "This smug princess here needs to learn not to mess with the daughter of Red's Charizard, let alone the younger Brother of Red, Ash, please," Flare said to Ash, glaring at Gisselle as she got up like those attacks were nothing. "How can she still battle like this, such a stubborn Pokemon acting like she's hot? I don't know what she said, but I can tell she's calling me out, like trainer like Pokemon?" Gisselle said as Flare's tail flame burst wildly, catching everyone's attention. She let out a roar and started to glow as everyone was surprised by this. Flare, the Charmander, had evolved into a Charmeleon. Gisselle was surprised as this was different from how evolution usually worked. "Flare?" Ash said, confused and worried about what would happen now that she evolved. "I'm still in here, Ash. I will not be disobedient towards you as per our agreement; I'm fighting for you, not just our team. Now, let's end this. Look up my moves, Ash," Flare said to Ash, who nodded and noticed that she had learned a new Fire attack on top of Flamethrower. Flare was glowing red as her Blaze ability activated as well. "What's that?" Everyone in the School said out loud. "Shows you how far behind this place is. Her ability, Blaze, increases its fire attacks, as for her new moves. We can combine that; use Flamethrower," Ash commanded her, who fired the attack as Marowak used its bone to deflect it. "Just as I predicted, use, Overheat along with Flamethrower," Ash commanded her, whose flame ignited and sent a much stronger fire attack as it blasted Marowak and sent it towards Gisselle as it held its arm. "Ugh, another move I've never heard of; let's end this Bone Rush," Gisselle commanded her Pokemon, who charged in at Flare. "End this with Dragons Dance and Dragon Claw," Ash commanded her, who charged in at each other and slashed each other as the two were on the other side of their trainers, arms held out as Flare was about to fall which Gisselle was about to celebrate only for Marowak knocked out from the amount of damage that it took as Gisselle ran over to her Pokemon as Flare was panting. Ash ran over to her and petted her head. "You did great out there, girl," Ash said to Flare, who purred from the pet on her horn. "Thanks, Ash, no one messing with our trainer and gets away with it," Flare said to Ash, who nodded as they turned to Gisselle, who now understood that Marowak was more than a Pokemon who had just won battles for her as Ash was about to say something only for a familiar voice called out to them. "What a wonderful battle you two had?" a male voice called out. It was Professor Oak, along with the school's headmaster, who was watching the entire battle. "Professor, what are you doing here?" Ash said as Flare was curious about that as well. "I was asked to come here to help provide the school enough to learn about Pokemon outside this region and improve the school's system, and the headmaster here agreed to it," Oak said to Ash and everyone. "However, we don't appreciate how the students treat others who are trying to learn without all this, and Gisselle, you proved that you are far from our top student. If you are willing to treat people like how you treat your Pokemon, what do you have to say about it?" the headmaster said to Gisselle, who didn't know what to say. "Headmaster, sir, if I may say something," Ash said to the headmaster, who turned to Ash, as did Flare and everyone. "Look, I think she's learned her lesson here that not everyone is going to learn exactly like she did, and I think she needs to go out on her own to see how things are different from what the school is teaching," Ash said to the headmaster who nodded as Ash continues and then turned to Gisselle who was surprised that Ash said that let alone standing up for her. "Don't get me wrong, I don't like how you treated your Pokemon or people like that, but people can change. I left this school cause I wanted to learn things independently, not through virtual tests and stuff as old as Fossil Pokemon. Gisselle, your sister is way better than you are as a trainer, and while I see some progress, I'm not sticking to your level and comparing you to her further," Ash said to Gisselle, who looked down. "Well said, Ash, Gisselle, as of right now, you need to get away from the school and be with your Pokemon. Who knows, you might change, but as of now, this school is well without you as a council member, and we don't want more potential trainers to drop out the cause of bullying. Right now, we are loosening our policies of how to teach our students and all that," the headmaster said to everyone, more importantly towards Gisselle, who nodded and returned Marowak and ran off. Everyone was gathered outside the school as Joe decided to become a trainer independently rather than learning from the school. Meanwhile, Professor Oak was learning more about Riolu, Latias, and Latios, who were a part of Ash and Misty's team. Even the students were amazed by their presence, and Latias seemed to enjoy all the attention. "So you are planning on going on your journey as well, huh, Joe?" Ash asked him, who nodded. "Yeah, as of right now, I'm in a position to earn two gym badges and will be heading on my way off toward Vermillion City, but first, I'm going to stand by my Pokemon and learn from them on my ways," Joe said to Ash who nodded. "What about Gisselle?" Misty asked everyone, who shrugged. "Hopefully, she'll learn her lesson and follow what the headmaster said to her cause; I have a feeling we'll see her again," Ash said to Misty, who nodded. "I agree with Ash here, and here's hoping we will run into each other again," Joe told Ash. As he took his leave, Ash turned to Professor Oak, who was finishing up his study on Ash's Pokemon. "You noticed that they are out of their balls and are with them, not with me. If that's okay with you, Professor?" Ash asked Oak, who nodded. "Although registered as your Pokemon, they do not count towards the capture limit. You don't have to worry, as it is allowed by the league." Oak said to Ash and Misty, who nodded as they felt that was the case. "You still have two more captures before the six Pokemon limit, so no worries, and you can always contact me when you need them," Oak said. As he was wrapping up, he turned to Brock and had a translator device for him. "This is for you, so you won't be out of touch with what is happening." "Thank you, and I appreciate it, though. I am fine with what is being told to me through everyone, but thank you, Professor," Brock said to Oak, who nodded. "So, what are you planning on doing next?" "I'll be staying here for another few days before heading back to the lab to teach the students more about the newer Pokemon and all that and make sure that the school is up to date with all this," Oak said to the group, who nodded. Ash and his friends were leaving the school and waving goodbye to Professor Oak as they headed toward Vermillion City. Riolu was now perched on Ash's shoulders, while Flare was too exhausted to speak, something Riolu picked up on. "Given that you are too tall to be on Ash's shoulders, I think I'll be taking my position on his shoulders now, Flare, or do you want to try maybe breaking his arm with your size," Riolu was interrupted by Ash. "You got your point across about the size, but let's not dwell on what you will say next. I thought you were getting along," Ash said to Riolu, who shrugged. "Per our agreement, the shoulder is yours, but you'll have to pay for mentioning my weight, Riolu. Though I agree with you about the size thing," Flare said as she was ready to launch a Flamethrower at her, not caring that Ash was there. Ash sighed as Riolu backed off. "I wished that one of you weren't female so we don't have this issue, but that can't be helped," Ash thought, knowing that if he said that, they would be on him faster than Flare's Flamethrower would reach him. "But I'm glad to have these two by my side, willing to fight for me and help me achieve my goal of becoming a Pokemon master." Ash smiled as Flare noticed and left it be. With the Pokemon School behind the group, our heroes are now setting on their journey towards Vermillion City. What is in store for our heroes as the journey continues? Stay Tuned.

Ash's Kanto Journey My Version Chapter 10Chapter 10: Abandonment Issues"Human Speech""Pokemon Speech and Flashback"'Telepathy'We join our heroes as they head to the Pokemon Center near the village where Mellony lived. Eevee was still worrying about her soon-to-be eggs, and she looks like she would pass out at any point. "Hey, Eevee, are you going to be okay?" Bulbasaur said to Eevee, who was unsure what to say as Ash, who was also worried."You want a lift on my shoulder?; I know that it's not usually a good thing for soon-to-be mothers, but I'm sure that you don't want to be captured right away because it will send you to Professor Oaks's lab," Ash asked Eevee, who nodded and turned to Bulbasaur, who knew what she was going to ask."I'll be gentle. Just hang on tight on Ash's shoulder, and please don't try to squirm out of my vines," Bulbasaur said to Eevee, who nodded as he proceeded to use Vine Whip to lift her while not grabbing her belly and managed to get her on Ash's shoulder, which was the right move as any forced form of lifting might cause any possible issues. Ash, Riolu, and Flare who were all out of their Pokeballs agree that this was the best way to ensure her safe arrival. Ash even took the time to pet her head, giving her extra attention near her right ear, causing her to purr with delight."Say, Mellony, how much longer until we reach the Pokemon Center?" Misty asked Mellony, who was thinking for a second about how Eevee was doing and if Eevee's eggs were alright, and heard what Misty said."I'd say about a half hour from now if we don't take any pitstops, that is," Mellony said to the group. Eevee sighed on Ash's shoulders. She was still in pain, trying to keep calm so that the eggs would be alright until she senses something nearby, making a yip to catch the group's attention before they hear a grumbling that seemed like some Pokemon was yelling."Who in the right mind would put up a string trap like this? This is stupid. Can this day get any worse?" the voice said as it was not far from where the group was. It is revealed as the group reaches the cause of the ruckus Eevee noticed to be a penguin Pokémon hanging upside-down from a trap on a tree nearby. The Pokémon noticed the group. "Oh, great; it did get worse."Seeing that a Pokemon was in distress, Ash is the first to try and approach the penguin Pokemon."Let's get you down, and we'll help you out," Ash said as he tried to get near the Pokemon hanging from the tree, only for him to be stopped in his tracks as the Pokemon sends out a Bubblebeam towards Ash."Hey, that was uncalled for, we're trying to help you out," Ash said as the Pokemon waved his flippers to show that he didn't want help."Leave it to me, Ash," Flare said to Ash, who saw as Flare used the Flamethrower on the rope but before the penguin Pokemon could react quickly and protest that it was a bad idea, the rope was burnt, and the Pokemon dropped on his head. Pleased at her "rescue," Flare said: "There, maybe you'll be more grateful to us for helping you like that."Upset at how it got down from the trap, the group hear."I had this handled before you all came and "helped" like that. I'm sure that you all probably put that trap up for me, given that all you humans are the same. You just want Pokemon for your own selfish reasons and do not care about us and our feelings while you make us do something stupid like Contests," the Pokemon said, thinking that he was only speaking to Ash's Pokemon, unaware his conversation was being translated through the Pokedex from everyone to understand. Given this was a newly Integrated feature and all."And I thought we were stubborn," Flare said to Riolu, who crossed her paws before adding to the conversation."Part of what Piplup are known for. They are as stubborn as a Charizard and Buizel combined, and that's the nice ones, but you aren't wrong about that," Riolu said to Flare as Ash now knowing that this Pokemon was known as a Piplup took note of the conversation. As Piplup was seeing the human seemingly understand his Pokemon completely, was caught by surprise to all this. When he heard:"By the way, Piplup, a few things. One, they can understand you; two, we just got here, and three, do you see the Eevee on the boy who tried to save you shoulders? She's expecting, and you could've done some damage to her and the eggs she's carrying," Riolu said to Piplup, who was taken aback by this as he tried to process it. Thinking about what was said, he knew he had to accept his actions were premature."Ugh, fine. Thanks for helping me. Now, please leave me alone. I'm still not trusting any humans, so you should consider yourself lucky for now," Piplup said as he waddled off in the opposite direction of the group, just as Ash was about to say something."Let him be, Ash. We don't know what his issues with humans are, and we don't want to cause issues with Eevee here if he lands a blow on you two," Flare said to Ash, who nodded. Curious to know a bit more about Piplups, he searched his Pokedex for info, much to his dismay as he watched the now identified Sinnoh water starter waddle his way out of view."I know how you feel, Ash. I'm also worried about him, but he wants to be left alone, and we should get going, too. We can find out what is going on at the Pokemon Center after we get Eevee checked out," Misty said to Ash, who nodded as the group left. Latios and Latias were also concerned about him, as it wasn't normal for a starter to be out like this, and they wondered who put up that trap like that.As the group head towards Mellony's suggested path, it suddenly started raining hard. Ash returned Flare to her ball as it was one of the few times she was okay with being in it. They soon spotted the Pokemon Center and reached it before the heavy downpour started."Man, that was close," Ash said, letting Flare out of her ball. "We really need to check the weather whenever we are out now, we don't want issues with your tail flame, girl," Ash said to Flare who sighed that things didn't get worse if Ash hadn't been quick to think of recalling her."I don't think that is necessary, Ash. Weather is unpredictable, so we can't know when it will strike, so no worries," Flare said to Ash. While Riolu and the rest of the Pokemon who remained outside of their Pokeballs are drying off, Flare soon joins them to give them warmth from her tail flame to avoid the team catching the equivalent of a cold for Pokémon. Pokerus. It is then when Nurse Joy, with a Blissey by her side notices the group and saw Eevee recognizing her along with Mellony."So, is it about that time? It was almost a week since we last saw Eevee, How is she doing, Mellony?" Nurse Joy said to Mellony, who replies:"From how she's been acting, she looks to be expecting soon enough; the problem is the pain has gotten worse since she was here last," Mellony said to Joy, who nods as she gently takes Eevee off Ash's shoulder and places her on a cart as the Blissey took her to the checkup room as Joy turns to Ash."I take that you will be taking her in once she is cleared to travel?" Joy said to Ash, who shakes his head. "What do you mean, are you or aren't you taking her in, young man?" Joy said to Ash, who was about to go off on him before Ash clarifies his answer."I'm saying no because she is going to be with my mother once she is cleared to leave or has her eggs; either or both will happen while we are here. It was Eevee's request, as she doesn't want to be a human-trained Pokemon," Ash explained as he pointed out his translator, which Nurse Joy is a new Pokedex feature before she sighs and calms down."I see. Sorry about that, young man. It's just that Eevee has been through a lot lately, and we've been keeping an eye on her, so I was hoping she would find a trainer of her own one day, but I'm glad this is a better option," Joy said to Ash, who understanding Joy's worry is glad that he is able to help Eevee. The group has now settled in as Ash went to check on Eevee, who was now being checked on by the Blissey. Flare, Bulbasaur, and Riolu stood beside him, collectively worried about Eevee."Hey, we'll wait for her and let you know if anything changes. In the meantime, why don't you relax with the others, Ash?" Bulbasaur said to Ash, who looked at him with an appreciative smile before he walked off to join the other travel companions. Leaving the Pokemon to talk amongst themselves."I can tell that it's not just Eevee that Ash is worried about. If I know him as well as I think I do, he's also thinking about Piplup, but although it's raining heavily out there, it should be ok, right? It is a water type and a starter, after all," Flare said to Bulbasaur and Riolu, who turned to her and stated:"I agree with you, Flare. He's a starter Pokemon from my region, and I'm pretty knowledgeable about most Pokemon there. He should be fine. However, our top priority is Eevee. Piplup has already mentioned that he doesn't want to be around us, but I'm curious about the reasons behind his issues," Riolu crossed her paws as this is the most stubborn Piplup ever she's come across, even more than what his line is known for."It sounds like he was abandoned," Bulbasaur told the two who turned to him. "I've seen it with the other Pokemon at the village, and he's showing signs of going through a trainer or two before meeting us. You saw the way he acted towards Ash; that's a sign of hurt and abandonment, not just pride," Bulbasaur said to the two, who looked down in understanding.. "I hope that he is alright, though," Riolu said as she looked out the window. It was pouring so heavily that even Buizel couldn't use their ability, Swift Swim.We cut to Piplup, who was sprinting towards a hole in a tree not far from the Pokemon Center where Ash and co. were staying. As he made it to safety, he started panting heavily before shaking off the excess water from his body. Being soaked from head to flipper was just about the last straw on this horrible day."I take what I said back. This is the worst thing that can happen," Piplup said as he finally caught his breath and sat down, waiting for the rain to stop."I can't believe another trainer abandoned me, all because I wouldn't battle the way he wanted to and tried to go with the way I wanted to battle," Piplup said as he looked up, thinking back to before meeting Ash and the others when he was with his previous trainer.FlashbackPiplup was with his previous trainer, who was training with his Pokemon, and Piplup was trying different battle styles that he was used to when he was young. On the other hand, his previous trainer wasn't amused, nor was he happy that he wasn't obeying his orders or doing a move correctly. Or rather what he dubbed as correctly and was quick to make it known."No, no, no! Why are you fighting like that? You are supposed to battle the way I want. As a trainer, you should obey my commands," The trainer said to Piplup, who turned to him and heck. Piplup didn't agree to obey a trainer he had joined to get stronger. "To think that you of all mons are supposed to be the best, but all you are showing is why you are known for being prideful and unwilling to listen."Piplup was curious as to what he was about to do. Despite not being as prideful as, say, Dragon Types were known to be, once you earn a Piplup's trust and respect, you would find the Sinnoh starter to be one the most fierce Pokemon should they bring out the potential in them to reach the Empoleon evolutionary stage. Very few ever tried, enjoying keeping Piplups as Piplups for their cuteness, and most accepted that as a means to please their trainers, but not all desired that life. Some needed the thrill of battle. Craved it, actually. They just a different way to go about it. Why wouldn't a trainer trust a Pokemon to know what may best the best of battle for themselves and enhance that?"If you don't like the way I do things, then you should go ahead and leave. You are no better than you were when I found you. Pathetic and weak, just like whatever trainer abandoned you before I found you. You will either listen to me or leave, do you understand? Your choice. What will you do?" he said as Piplup was taken aback by his trainer's words. They were deliberately hurtful. Piplup took the hint and made his choice as he started to walk off, trying his best to not let that horrendous trainer see the tears falling from his face, just as his trainer said:"Fine! You were always a loser and not even worth the PokeBall you were caught in," he said before dropping it and smashing his ball. Not knowing much about Kanto and the intense measures poachers had gone to as a means to secure Pokemon foreign to Kanto, Piplup found himself lost and soon failed to notice the trap it was caught in briefly after before the group found it.End FlashbackHe was starting to think about it earlier and wished that he had gone with them if he had known this would happen, though he shook his head at that thought."No, he probably would've caught me and not cared about my feelings or how I wanted to battle," Piplup said as he slammed his flipper on the inside of the tree. "Humans are all the same, treating Pokemon as pawns of battle and not caring about us at all," Piplup said as he saw how the female pregnant Eevee was perfectly fine with being on Ash's shoulders, as were Riolu and Charmeleon being beside him."I don't get it why someone who is expecting so content on being with humans, and that Riolu know's a lot about my evolutionary line. Yes her line is from my home region as well," Piplup shook his head. "Ugh, I don't get it, but if that boy is willing to want me, he has to prove that he does care for his Pokemon not just me," Piplup said as he looked at the Pokemon Center as the rain was clearing up.Just then, Piplup noticed a certain human walking towards the Pokemon Center and growled at him."Oh, great. Of all the people who could show up, it had to be him. I'll wait until he's gone to see if that group of humans is there or not," Piplup said to himself, as just seeing that human made him madder than he was before. Today was just about the worst day of Piplup's life thus far.Meanwhile, Ash and the others were waiting to hear how Eevee was doing just as a boy walked into the Pokemon Center with a group of people hot of his heels and the boy who seemed like he was the defacto leader of the bunch, audibly grunted the loudest amongst them."To think that this day could get any worse. First, my Pokemon left my team and now, this storm hits," the boy said to his friends, who caught the attention of Ash and the others."I mean, Pokemon are supposed to listen to humans, so him leaving the team is an Arceus's end for you, Andrew," one of the members of the group said as the one who first spoke, who was identified to be named Andrew, laughed. This made Ash tighten his fist as he suspension that this could be the trainer that abandoned Piplup became more and more of a reality. Still he listened in and did the rest of the group."You kidding? He was already abandoned before meeting me, and from what I heard, it seems that he is being hunted by poachers. You think that he would be happy that I took him in, right? It's not as if Pokemon like Piplup aren't easy to come by here in Kanto," Andrew said, as Ash was not happy that he said that finally confirming that this vile trainer did abandon Piplup and ran up to him."So you are the one who both abandoned and strung up the Piplup we saw in the middle of the road not far from here?" Ash asked in an intense tone directed to Andrew, who turned to Ash and laughed at him but wondered who he was and why he would care about that poor excuse for a Pokemon."One, he left my team for not wanting to accept listening to my commands, as Pokemon should do anyways as a duty to their trainers. Two, did you not hear about what I said about Pokemon outside of Kanto being hunted by poachers? That trap is probably something that was set up for him or any other Pokemon in the area that isn't familiar with Kanto. Finally, why would you care about him anyway and what is it to you? You shouldn't stick your nose in someone else's business unless you're willing to do something about it," Andrew said to Ash as Misty and Brock heard this threat and soon stood beside him. This caught Andrew a bit by surprise, and he soon recognized one of them."Say, aren't you a Gym Leader?" Andrew said to Brock, who remained stoic before Misty confirmed he was, noting he didn't direct his question towards before adding."Brock here isn't the only one here who has ties to the League, young man," Misty said not yet revealing that she herself is a Gym Leader. At this Andrew scoffed that he should be afraid of anyone associated with to the League. But soon, Ash continues to makes his case."And we've had run-ins with other Pokemon that have been abandoned. Trainers like you are selfish and I take it that you are why Piplup has issues with humans. Do you even deserve to be a Trainer?" Ash finished. Andrew, who took offense that Ash would say something like that."Hey, he had those issues before meeting me, and it's not your call to tell people how to raise Pokemon or not, kid. You are probably a joke of a Trainer who thinks that everyone can get along with Pokemon here in this region," Andrew said with venom behind every word. He despised Trainers that were goody two shoes and wanted to be friends with Pokemon. Pathetic.Ash was about to say something only for Nurse Joy to step in. She was not happy."That's enough! All of you. Now, if you want to throw down, you should take it outside when the clouds clear, as this is a Pokemon Center, not a battleground." Joy said as Ash and Andrew shut up and nodded. Ash in a bit of shame and Andrew as a means to end this whole fiasco but wouldn't leave without getting the final word."Fine by me, I'll prove to you why you should treat Pokemon like the tools they are," Andrew said to Ash, who had seen this tactic before. He just kept to himself and said nothing other than deliver a fierce glare towards Andrew that silently yet at the same time loudly emitted a "Bring it on!” vibe."Let's go, guys. Let's get away from these losers. The League is more of a joke than I thought if these are some of it's representatives," Andrew said, having not to waste time with the group as he and his cohorts walked away."Sorry about that, Nurse Joy. It sounded like you heard of these guys," Ash said to Joy, who took a sigh of relief when the confrontation that was set to escalate thankfully ended before she explained the situation to Ash and his friends."Andrew and his friends, more like followers, Amelia, Jason, and Issac, are the type of friends who have been known for causing issues lately. They are strong, but rumor has it that they are former Team Rocket members."This caught the group off guard and really made Ash consider facing him that much more if he could help Pokemon like Piplup find their way out of the grasp of evil-doers like those formerly associated with Team Rocket."That's the rumor, anyway. Given that Team Rocket disbanded a long time ago, I don't know how true the rumor might be, but there have been reports of more Pokemon being found in former Team Rocket lairs like that of the Celadon Game Corner and being released from their captivity after being left in cages and being left without food or water for who knows how long. It's been hard to help with the rehabilitation of these Pokemon given their mistrust of humans. All we can do is keep trying and hope they can live better lives in the long run," Joy said to Ash and the others while Andrew and his friends were out of earshot."If they are with Team Rocket or were with them, why hasn't anyone reported anything? Wouldn't your word as a Nurse carry weight in reporting the actions trainers like that can put their Pokemon through, like of they're bruised or malnourished?" Misty said to Joy, who shook her head."Cause there's no proof of their evil doings, at least when it refers to their Pokemon. Some Pokemon are so devoted to pleasing their trainers they go along with their goals, despicable as they may be to where when asked by our Chanseys, Blisseys and Audino across the world they will say it was just an accident or in some cases refuse to open in fear of their trainers not feeding them or worse. It's not just us a care providers to report Trainers that do heinous acts, it's also on the Pokemon themselves and if they want to escape their current circumstances. Besides, they usually skip out of town once they either win a battle or lose a battle, finding other means to heal their Pokemon or not to avoid any contact with the League," Joy said as she continued. "For some reason, they have been very good with keeping it low profile if they are with them, but enough of that. Remember, that's not why you're here; it's Eevee. Ready for an update on her?" Joy asked Ash and the group. Soon, the group that Riolu, Bulbasaur, and Flare were in stood behind Joy as they heard the entire thing."Is she alright?" Mellony asked Joy, who nodded as she turned to Eevee's room. She then continued with the update."She's fortunate that you got her here as soon as you could because, according to her check-up with Blissey, I'm happy to report that she will have her eggs at any minute. That's the other reason why I wanted to calm things down here before things got worse," Joy said, as Ash and the others were surprised by this."She's going to have her eggs tonight, and once she's had them and at least an hour passes, she'll be cleared to be caught and transferred to Professor Oaks' lab," Joy said to the group. Ash and the others sighed as they felt that was the case, given how she was acting and in pain from all that walking."Luckily, whatever happened earlier didn't cause issues with her eggs, so she'll have them tonight. Let's let things play out, and they should. Not much more you all can do for now, so please, sleep. You all should go and rest. I'll contact both the League and the police about Andrew's group to inform them of Piplup's release, and hopefully, they can find it soon once the rain does down a bit, but by that time, they probably will be gone before they can get there, so you will have to help to make a report given you have insght to Piplup's situation having helped it be free from the trap and whatnot," Joy said to Ash and the others as they nodded as Joy took her leave.Ash and the others sat down and sighed as Riolu, Flare, and Bulbasaur approached the group. Latios and Latias were now visible and weren't happy about what was said.'You believe them about not putting up that trap for Piplup? Because no one who treats Pokemon like that would plead innocence about that,' Latias said to Ash and the others who weren't sure."I'm not sure, Latias. I can tell that he means what he said. You saw how he acted when I accused him like that, and it was almost a similar situation with Piplup towards us," Ash said to Latias, who was about to say something only for her brother to put in his own opinion on the matter.'I really hate to say it, sis, but Ash is right; he admitted to releasing Piplup, and you saw how Piplup acted towards Ash. You would think that he would try to put up that trap if he wanted him again. Not to mention he did mention that there are poachers who are after Piplup and other rare Pokemon, just as they are still trying to figure out how to catch and then what to do with us,' Latios said to his sister, who chose that silence was the right answer while gathering her thoughts. Ash was curious about what Latios meant before it was Latias' turn to speak up.'As you know, we were brought here in Kanto. We'd been avoiding poachers for weeks before meeting you guys, and we didn't like how they treated their Pokemon. You can tell by how I acted with AJ a while back, thinking that he was one of the poachers who tried to come after us,' Latias said to the group."You think he's with the same group who brought you here? I mean, we haven't run into Team Rocket since the day Misty and I started our journey as trainers, and it was the trio that my brother had faced a lot in the past," Ash said to Latios and Latias, who wasn't sure about what to say. The nature of poaching didn't merit exclusivity to Team Rocket. Notorious wanted criminals like Hunter J would jump at the bit to be the ones to capture and sell Latias and Latios to the highest, or who knows if she, or any poacher for that matter, would want them for themselves and wreak havoc across the Pokemon World. This was a truly terrifying thought. But that was a problem for tomorrow and beyond. Right now, they needed to focus on Andrew and the challenge made towards Ash."Ash, we should be more worried about the group here right now cause we need to figure out a way to face them. Knowing them, they probably are listening to the whole thing right now," Misty said to Ash and the others, who nodded. They wouldn't put it past them to resort to tactics like that to try and gain the upper hand on Ash."Right, let's not talk about who will battle tomorrow, but we don't know what he has on his team, so let's leave it to that," Ash declared. Flare was willing to fight, though Latias and Riolu also wanted to. Ash and the others were the only ones who could understand them, given that it was a new function of the Pokedex holders, and they worked with Pokemon near the wearers.Little did they know it, but Andrew was Indeed listening to the whole thing. He was okay with not knowing who he would be facing, though he is impressed that Ash and the others not only have a legendary but two on their team wanted by poachers. If he played his cards right, this could lead to an opportunity unlike any other...The next day came, and the rain had dissipated. The group was informed that Eevee already had her eggs and was resting. This made all the focus for the time being on the battle between Ash and Andrew, who were outside on the battlefield near the Pokemon Center.Meanwhile, back in the tree from the night before, Piplup was resting. It was not long before the noise of Trainers nearby caught its attention, and it started to wake up only to see the noise come from the group that saved him but also his past trainer, Andrew."What are they up to?" The Sinnoh starter thought as he hid nearby. He now watched the entire thing from afar as Brock was preparing for his role in reffing the battle."So, how many Pokemon do you suggest for this battle, Andrew?" Ash asked as Andrew didn't wait to deliver a cocky smile and held up three fingers."3v3 if that's fine with you. Just don't think that I'm going easy on you," Andrew said as he pulled out a Pokeball. "Let's start this off, Magby. Come on out," Andrew said as he sent out his first Pokemon, which was a fire type, and it looked like it had undergone a lot of training.Ash then pulled out a Pokeball of his own. "Let's get going, Tranpinch, come on out," Ash sent out his first Pokemon. Andrew wasn't impressed that Ash had one. He has rare Pokemon of his own. So why worry that this kid has one?"Are you thinking that you'll have an easy win because of it having a type advantage, or are you doubting that I'm not going easy on you, kid?" Andrew said to Ash, who shook his head, knowing he shouldn't take battles lightly. He trusts Trapinch and would use him even with the type disadvantage. With no straight answer from Ash, Andrew takes the initiative."Humph, suit yourself. Magby, use Flamethrower," Andrew commanded his Pokemon, who fired the fire attack towards Tranpinch."Dig, and then use Crunch," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who dug underground, headed towards the fire-type Pokemon, and emerged from the ground."Oh no, you don't! Use Brick Break. Counter it." Andrew commanded his Pokemon, which slammed its fists right into Tranpinch just as it was about to bite Magby. Now, use Mega Punch," Andrew commanded his Pokemon, which slammed its fists into Tranpinch, sending it back towards its Trainer's direction."You, okay, Tranpinch?" Ash asked him, who nodded, showing that it would take more than that to take him out so easily."Humph, not bad, kid. I'll give you that: He's strong. It seems like he's been battling more than I thought he would, but I won't let this get to me. Now, Flamethrower," Andrew commanded his Pokemon, who fired the attack at the Tranpinch.Since recovering, Tranpinch looked like he was taking in some sunlight, something Ash noticed while Andrew didn't. This was a big mistake."Fire Solar Beam, now," Ash commanded, catching Andrew off guard as Tranpinch Pokemon fired at Flamethrower, causing an explosion as both attacks collided."Now, Gust," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who launched a Gust of wind at Magby. While most would question why Trapinch would know Gust, Ash was thankful to Brock, who, through a few breeding techniques while on a late-night training session, was able to have Trapinch learn the move. Before recovering from the attack, Magby stood his ground from trying to be blown away. It wasn't going well."Ugh, Flamethrower, stop it!" Andrew commanded his Pokemon, who fired the attack with such ferocious intent that the tailwinds of the Gust attack actually helped the flames intensify as they made their way toward Tranpinch as it canceled the attack. However, it was just too late, as the flames were about to make contact."Dig, now," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who dug underground again. This was the only way Trapinch was able to survive being burnt to a crisp. Before Ash could signal another attack, Andrew took charge."It's not going to happen, Lava Plum on the ground, Magby; put an end to this battle. Andrew commanded his Pokemon, who sent his fists on the ground, sending shockwaves of fire towards the hole where Tranpinch went in as it blasted, only for him not to be there. "What the?""Attack now, Tranpinch. Feint Attack!" Ash commanded his Pokemon, who slammed right into Magby, sending him to the ground and knocking him out."Magby is unable to battle Tranpinch wins," Brock announced as Ash and Tranpinch celebrated happily, though Tranpinch was tired from all that as Andrew returned his Pokemon to its ball. He was not happy he lost, but he was proud to see how strong his Magby has grown. Soon, he would have the Magmar he desired. Soon."Humph, not bad kid. I can see why you own one, but this is only the beginning. Tranpinch, come on out."Andrew sent out his own Tranpinch as Ash knew that his Tranpinch might be too tired to fight."Are you okay taking a break for now?" Ash asked Tranpinch, who nodded as he returned him to his ball. All the while, Piplup watched and was amazed by how different Ash's battle styles on Andrew were. He was willing to care for his Pokemon when they were tired of facing another member of its line. 'Would he truly care for me in ways others haven't? Maybe...' For now, he'd continue watching."Spearow, come on out," Ash sent out his next Pokemon, who took flight and was ready to fight as Andrew realized that Ash wasn't going to use Latias in this fight. This was bothersome. He'd hoped to face and defeat the Legendary. He'd have to force Ash to use it, and that meant defeating that flying nuisance in such a fashion he'd have to bring out his strongest Pokémon to even try to make a comeback."Now use Drill Peck," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who charged at Tranpinch. A snapped off his train of thought regarding Latias, Andrew retaliates."Feint Attack, then Rock Tomb," Andrew commanded his Pokemon, who, with amazing speed, dodged the Drill Peck and vanished behind Spearow, then slammed its body on Spearow and launched Rocks towards the avian. Ash knew he had to take charge."Feather Dance, then Aerial Ace, Spearow," Ash commanded him, who launched the feathers on Tranpinch, lowering the damage to the Rock Tomb before it hit him and trapped it in the rocks. "Spearow!" Ash said as Spearow was struggling in the rocks."That's Checkmate. Now let me show you what a real attack looks like, Hyper Beam," Andrew commanded his Pokemon, who charged up its attack and fired it at Spearow."Spearow, we won't let them get to us like this. We're a team. Use Steel Wing and Aerial Ace. Get out of there," Ash commanded him, whose wings glowed and destroyed the rocks before Spearow dodged the Hyper Beam barely, then began charging at Tranpinch, who was suffering from the recharge from the Hyper Beam and slammed right into him with Aerial Ace sending him flying across the battlefield.Andrew was surprised that Ash had come back from all that, though he had something up his sleeve for the next round of attack."Get up, you little runt. We're not done," Andrew said in an angry tone toward his Pokemon, who was getting up. The Pokemon was not happy that Andrew was angry with him but knew that he must win. There were consequences he and his comrades suffered if they didn't. Not always but enough times that when he got this angry, it was his Pokemon who paid the price."We need to be careful. We don't know if it knows Counter or anything of that sort, but he is showing that he was with Team Rocket or that sort by treating his Pokemon like that," Ash stated as he looked at Spearow, who seemed confident in continuing even after all it's been through so far. Ash sighed in relief that Spearow hadn't been too injured or tired just yet. "Right, let's try and end this, use Aerial Ace, then Drill Peck," Ash commanded his Pokemon.Spearow was charging in at Tranpinch, which wasn't moving. Ash felt something was off and knew he had to prepare for the worst. He may be too late to do so."Flail, now just as it hits you," Andrew commanded his Pokemon, as Ash hadn't heard of that move before. Ash was curious about it and chose to continue the course of action previously commanded. However, the power of the move was revealed in a surprising way."Ash, get him before he hits Spearow. It does a lot of damage if its health is low," Riolu said to Ash, who now realized it was a trap for him. "It's not going to happen. Spin now before it can strike you," Ash said, hoping this change would happen before it was too late.Andrew was taken aback as Spearow spun and slammed right into Tranpinch before it could land its attack, knocking it out, though it clamped its mighty jaw on Spearow's wing, landing a blow before it got knocked out."Tranpinch is unable to battle; Spearow wins," Brock announced. Spearow winched as its wing took a lot of damage from that attack. Everyone was surprised, and Andrew smirked silently."Spearow, are you alright?" Ash said, worried about his first captured Pokemon, who tried to shake his wing and though in pain. He nodded as Ash tried to return him to his ball."I'm fine, Ash, please. I want to fight more; I've taken more damage than that before we met, so please don't worry about me," Spearow said to Ash, who thought about Spearow's words. Knowing that it would do more harm to their relationship than not by harming its pride and willingness to fight just a bit more, despite wanting to care for it and its damaged wing, Ash sighs."Alright. I'll trust you," Ash said as Spearow cawed in an appreciative tone and tried to prepare for the next battle.Piplup saw the whole thing and could tell he really cared about his Pokemon's well-being despite their protests about staying in. Piplup was almost convinced to join his team when he noticed someone else was watching this battle from afar who was also interested in Ash. His attention is drawn back to the battle when he hears:"So far, so good, kid. I can see why you've made it this far as a trainer, though I'm not going to let this battle get to me. It's time to show you why I'm not going down that easily. Grimer, come on out!" Andrew proclaims as he sends out his last Pokemon, not realizing he has recalled the fallen Trapinch back to its PokeBall.Ash and the others now realize that Andrew might indeed have been tied to Team Rocket at one point just from using a Pokemon like that. Most used Poison types that weren't from a Pokemon gym. It oozes its toxins, ready to battle as Spearow itself was raring to go to the best of its capabilities."Alright, use Steel Wing," Ash ordered his Pokemon, which charged at Grimer with its wing fortified with steel energy."Disable, now," Grimer's eyes glow with energy that, although invisible to the eye, invades Spearow's mind in a way that disrupts the move's ability to connect and be used again for the remainder of the battle. This pleases Andrew as it catches Ash and Spearow off guard."Shockwave," Andrew commanded his Pokemon, who deals massive damage by Shockwave. A move that, unfortunately for the recipient, rarely misses."Spearow!" Ash said as he was sent to the ground hard, struggling to get up as the pain from its injured wing became too much to handle."End this with Gunk Shot," Andrew commanded his Pokemon, who fired its attack and shoots filthy garbage at Spearow."Get out of there now," Ash commanded his Pokemon, only for his wing, which was injured, to stop Spearow from flying. He couldn't get out of there and got hit by the Gunk Shot, knocking him out. "Spearow is unable to battle. Grimer wins," Brock announced as Ash ran over to him, who looked in bad shape. Possibly being an added effect, the move Gunk Shot often plagues the Pokemon it's gunk with."You did well, but I should've returned you to your ball before things got worse, boy," Ash said to Spearow, who smiled proudly before nodding as Ash returned him to his ball."I'll give Spearow this for a weakling of a fledgling. He took a lot more damage than I thought he would before his wing gave out," Andrew said, trying to play innocent from what happened, not trying very hard to hide the smirk on his face. Flare and Riolu weren't pleased by this. They said they wouldn't mind being next to battle to make Andrew pay for what happened. Their motivation to face the arrogant Trainer becomes that much more solidified as they hear:"If I were you, I suggest you quit before things get worse for you, Ash," Andrew said, laughing. Latios and Latias held back the urge to Draco Meteor this Trainer I to oblivion with every fiber of their beings as they continued to cloak themselves and watched their friends face this vile human. Latias herself wanted to put this human in his place but trusted Ash would use her if she were absolutely necessary.Piplup growled at this, as he'd seen it beforehand, that maniacal laugh when Andrew grew too confident. He hated it, and he wanted to step in as he heard Ash call out."I won't give up; this battle is far from over. Tranpinch, come on out," Ash said as he sent out his next Pokemon. "Use Gust now, Tranpinch," Ash ordered his Pokemon, who fired the wind at Grimer only for it to disappear. "Hey, where did it go?" Ash said it didn't have any clue where it had disappeared to."Shadow Sneak now," Andrew commanded his Pokemon, who slammed his fists right into Tranpinch behind it. Ash was surprised by this, sending Tranpinch seeing the move connect with vicious intent and how Trapinch was slammed hard into the battlefield ground and with swirls in his eyes effectively showing his move did its job in knocking it out."Tranpinch is unable to battle; Grimer wins, and the match is tied," Brock announced. Ash returned Tranpinch to his ball before Ash praised him, and Andrew laughed even louder."See, how pathetic you are? You are being predictable and proving how out of your league you are against me; you might as well call it quits before whatever your last Pokemon gets an even worse thrashing against me. You've got no chance," Andrew said as Ash seemed to remain calm and let him continue his talk. "To think that you can ever take me on like this, you are just pathetic like your Pokemon are," Andrew then finally noticed a distortion and saw his target at long last. Directed his speech directly to Latias and the Pokemon, who were out of their balls. "You might as well leave him and join someone strong like me and not someone as pathetic as this loser of a twerp,” Andrew regretted that last bit. Not many used the line of twerp as often as members of Team Rocket did back in the day. A talking Meowth and some idiots alongside it more so than anyone. It was a dead giveaway to his former ties to Team Rocket.Riolu, Flare, and a now-revealed Latias growled at Andrew and shook their heads, showing that they would rather not be abused or treated like that. Flare ran out to the battlefield after she had finished listening to his laugh."Keep calm, Flare, and be ready," Ash gave his instructions to Flare as the Grimer came underneath her shadow, ready to strike."Dragons Dance, then use Dragon Claw." The moves were used as Ash envisioned. Dragons Dance's movements allowed Flare to evade the Shadow Sneak gracefully. She slammed her claw into Grimer before he could strike, sending him out of her shadow and toward Andrew. Flare wasn't going to be phased by this trick; she was showing it by how she acted. Setting that Ash took note of."Flare?" Ash said to her, who turned to her trainer and gave him reassurance that she was okay."I won't let him get to me, Ash, or the team. Let's shut this brat up, shall we?" Flare said to Ash, who smiled and nodded."This kid won't give up. Use Shockwave." Andrew commanded his Pokemon, which fired the attack at Flare."Flamethrower now, Flare," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who fired her attack, and the two attacks were now caught in a power struggle. They were even in attacks. This dumbfounded Andrew."How is this possible?" Andrew said that as Flare showed that she wasn't even finished with the attack, he noticed she was holding back. "Cancel it out before she can control Grimer."They had him right where they wanted him."It's not going to happen. End this with Overheat max power," Ash commanded Flare as her tail flame burst and sent a massive fire that destroyed the Shockwave attack and blasted Grimer back. The overwhelming power from the Overheat began causing what seemed like an explosion—a small one, but an explosion nonetheless. The smoke cleared, and Grimer was knocked out. Flare was panting heavily showing this battle took a lot more than she had let on, but she was proud to see she had done her job in seeing how. Andrew and his friends were left surprised at his loss."Grimer is unable to battle Charmeleon, and the winner of the battle is Ash Ketchum," Brock said as Ash ran over to Flare, who was panting heavily but gave Ash a snarl and a lick on his face, showing that she was all right. This made Ash laugh a bit at the gesture.Andrew wasn't happy that he lost and returned his Grimer to his ball as he realized Ash's last name and knew why he was willing to fight against him just as his brother did against Team Rocket way back when and humphed."Let's go, you guys. We can get to my Pokemon Center. You guys, we shouldn't be around these weaklings," Andrew said as the group nodded and turned away."Andrew, wait," Ash said to him, who sighed in frustration at being ignored as Andrew stopped his march but did not turn to face Ash but replied: "Save it. I have nothing to say to you." Now, it was Ash who didn't respond. "Your victory is just a fluke, and next time will be different. Don't think that this is the end. Know that we'll meet each other again, and when we do, I'll put you and ALL of your pathetic Pokemon in their place, so savor this victory, Red's little brother, because it won't last forever. You don't know who you are messing with and know this.""Pokemon are just tools for means of battle, nothing else. Sooner or later, the rest of your Pokemon will wake up and leave you because of how pathetic you are, so take care." Andrew said as he and his friends took off.Latias was about to do something that would make Andrew witness Giratina in the flesh, but Ash called out to her. "You too, Latios." Knowing her Dragon brethren, too, probably had the same line of thinking. Latios remained cloaked, but an audible: "Fine..." was heard."Let him go, Latias. He's not worth it," Ash said to her, who turned to him and reluctantly agreed. "Right now, going after him would only make us stoop to his level, and we won't ever stoop that low, so let's get the team healed and figure out what to do next."Ash said as everyone nodded, only for Piplup to (finally reveal itself as he) run down towards Ash. "Wait!" The group then turned to see..."Huh? Piplup, I am so happy you're ok. I take it you saw the whole thing?"Ash said, kneeling to meet the Pokemon eye-to-eye, a gesture that showed great respect to Piplup. He appreciated that."Before I answer that, can you really understand us, human? I mean, Ash?" Piplup said to Ash, who nodded. He explained that it wasn't through any psychic means or anything of the sort but rather technology that is now available in certain Pokedexes like his to help understand Pokemon."I did, and I'm sorry for the way I acted. It's no excuse for what I did, but you see now why I left that...that...." Ash placed his hand reassuringly on Piplup's head and silently mouthed 'I know,' letting Piplup know it was ok to feel the way he did. Piplup damn near shed a tear right then and there but continued:"He's wrong about one thing. You aren't pathetic. You tried to help me and cared for your Pokemon like they were family, even when injured like Spearow was," Piplup said to Ash, who nodded. "It's how you would be treated. I would never abandon you or any of my friends," Ash said to Piplup, who listened to what he said and took it to heart. Riolu and the others were happy to hear Ash say that before Ash decided to go for it."Do you want to join my team, Piplup?" Ash politely asked who had considered adding Piplup to his team. He wasn't sure. He saw how strong he was, but deep down he wanted to test it himself."Only if you beat me in battle. You've impressed me with your battle style, but I need to see if it fares against me," Piplup said to Ash, who was taken aback by this."Don't worry, you don't have to challenge me immediately. I can see your Pokemon are injured unless Ms. Riolu over there wants to fight, given that you know my species, being from Sinnoh yourself originally."How could Riolu pass up a challenge like that?"Bring it. I want to see how good you are, given that we are both from the same region and both stubborn and arrogant. I have no doubt we can bring out the best in one another." Riolu said, turning to Ash. "Are you okay with it, Ash?"Ash nodded. "If things get too much for either of you, I'll end the match. I won't have you do more damage to each other than necessary. That goes for either of you, deal?" Ash asked Piplup, who agreed to those terms. As much as he hated to admit it, it was a fair offer.Riolu and Piplup got into position as Ash was ready to fight against him."Ladies, first, you can go," Piplup said to Riolu, who nodded, as did Ash."Right, use Brick Break, Riolu," Ash commanded her. She charged at Piplup with her paw glowing. Piplup fired a beam of ice toward Riolu, and her paw became covered in ice before hitting Piplup, sending him back. Riolu shook off her paw. "It's Typical for a water type to know an ice-type attack to counter their weaknesses," Riolu said to Piplup, who smirked."Just keep telling yourself that. Riolu," Piplup said as he made a kissing motion. Ash and Riolu knew what was coming."So, Attract made its debut, Shadow Claw. Slice through it before it can hit you, Riolu," Ash commanded her, slicing the hearts before they hit her. One did hit her as she was infatuated with him, albeit not to the full degree it would normally be."Riolu, snap out of it, come on," Ash said to Riolu, who was trying to shake it off and successfully did after a few seconds, which impressed Piplup.Piplup fired a Bubblebeam attack on Riolu, who was taking it. Ash noticed that Piplup was trying to see how well Ash was handling his type of battle style and how he fights."Iron Tail, and then use Shadow Claw," Ash commanded Riolu, who was using her tail to slice up the bubbles. When within range, she slammed her claw right into Piplup, who launched a torrent of water on Riolu, which caused more damage than usual."He knows Brine?" Misty said out loud in a bit of a shocked tone to Ash, who hadn't heard that move before. "It doubles damage to opponents if they're injured too much in battle," Misty said to Ash. Thankful for Misty's expertise in. water types and their moves, Ash, to come up with a plan quickly. "Endure, now," Ash yelled, hoping it would help Riolu against the onslaught of damage it was undergoing. Riolu just managed to survive the attack. Piplup was impressed by this and knew he had chosen a good trainer. He couldn't stand to see Riolu take any more damage, either. He knew Brine packed a whopping punch. "Alright, that's enough," Piplup stated. Ending the battle much to Riolu's appreciation as she dropped to one knee at the exhausting attempt to use Endure. That Brine would've knocked her out if not for Ash's quick thinking."I know that we just started, but I think it's enough for me to choose you as a trainer," Piplup said to Ash, who approached Riolu with a Potion to help her out before he pulled out a Pokeball.Ash tossed it at him, and with a final sign of acceptance from Piplup, we see the ball shaking three times before dinging to complete the capture. He was sent off to Professor Oaks's lab.Ash shakes his head at the fact that even with Latias being with him, he was due to reach his limit of 6 Pokemon and knew that Piplup wouldn't want that, so he had to choose who to send back to the lab, and when prompted to choose a Pokemon to switch out in order to return Piplup to him, Ash decided that Beedrill, for now, would be sent back. Finally, having faced Andrew and caught Piplup, the group headed back to the Pokemon Center. Ash got his Pokemon healed and went on to ask Joy if he could see Eevee's status checking in on her well-being and that of her eggs. Joy agreed, and knowing how much they care for Eevee, they let Mellony and Bulbasaur join Ash as well.It is then we see Eevee, who was seemingly recovering from last night along with her eggs, though they were in another room as Joy went off to check on them, reassuring everyone they were all now in good health. Eevee then surprisingly jumped on Ash and gave him a nuzzle. He chuckled just as Nurse Joy brought out her eggs in incubators, though there were three eggs, which surprised Ash."That's a lot of eggs for a first-time mother?" Ash said in surprise. Now he understood why Eevee's pain was as intense as it was and was thankful they made it to the Center before it got worse."Normally, first-time mother Pokemon would only have one or two eggs, not three," Joy said as the group turned to her. "That would explain why she was struggling to keep herself together lately. We didn't see it in her ultrasound when we ran her tests," Joy said. Then, a small knock on the room door alerted them that Brock and Misty had wanted to see Eevee as well. Joy gave a nod of approval for them to see Eevee, and we were surprised to see how many eggs she had. It was then that Eevee spoke out."Oh, good. You're all here. I have to tell you something." Before she gestured towards the eggs in the incubators, the group were wondering what she had to say. "They're yours," Eevee said to Ash, Misty, and Brock, who were surprised. These were her babies. They couldn't accept them, could they? Seeing their hesitation, she elaborated on why she was doing this."I might not want to be a human-trained Pokemon, but I won't privy them from that experience. Just keep me informed about how they are doing, as they can't be transported as I would be. Once they're born and caught, if you wouldn't mind sending them to the Lab once in a while, I would appreciate it."Ash wanted to protest but Eevee uses her tail to shoosh him and nuzzled him once more. "Please, this is my way of thanking you all for helping me. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my kids. You've earned my trust. Truly." Eevee said to Ash and his friends, who nodded. This day had certainly been a turbulent rollercoaster of events, but to seemingly end on this high note was just, for lack of a better word, pretty much perfect. "And I'll make sure that your kits are going to be safe, Eevee, so take care," Bulbasaur said to Eevee, who nodded and stated she was ready to be in her new home with Ash's mom before she turned to Mellony, who smiled at this. Her eyes were barely able to hold back tears as she had to say goodbye to such a dear friend."I know that they will, Eevee. You take care, have a good life with Ash's mother, and have fun," Mellony said to Eevee, who nodded and thanked her for everything."I know that they will be in great hands, Eevee." Looking to Ash and his friends. "You take care, have a good life with Ash's mother, and have fun," Mellony said to Eevee, who jumped from Ash to her arms, nuzzling and giving her a loving lick on the face and thanked her for everything. Mellony only whispered: "It was my pleasure." before finally crying as Eevee went back to Ash.Ash then pulled out a Pokeball and captured her with a single ding of the ball as she was soon sent to Oaks lab. Oak was soon contacted and instructed to give her to his mother and promised he would do so before ending the call. Soon, Joy contacted the group to head to the front desk."Right, now your Pokemon will be here for another day to make sure that they won't be injured until further notice," Joy said to Ash, who nodded. After the damage to Spearow's wing and its likely poisonous status, plus the damage Riolu took from Brine, along with all who helped in taking on Andrew, they deserved the rest, and another day wouldn't hurt their journey.Luckily, Joy didn't scold him for what happened to Spearow, as that attack on his wing was a low blow. He'd have to be wary of Andrew and his underhanded tactics the next time he battled. As Brock took his egg, he was soon tapped on the shoulder by a vine only to see Bulbasaur be the one to inquire his attention."Hey, what's going on, Bulbasaur? Are you ready to head back home with Mellony?" But Bulbasaur shook its head and let Brock know that it was ready to trust Trainers again after their help with Eevee and had decided to have Brock be his Trainer."Are you sure?" Brock asked, only to receive his answer as Bulbasaur pulled a ball from his belt, tapped it on his head, and let the ball wiggle three times before it locked and officially registered as his Pokemon. Brock picked up the ball and said, "You won't regret this."Mellony was now ready to take her leave. Brock decided it was best to let Bulbasaur out to say goodbye."Take care of everyone, and to you, my sweet Bulbasaur..." She knelt and scratched Bulbasaur's favorite spot right by his bulb one final time, much to Bulbasaur's delight and sadness."Take care of everyone, and I appreciate everything you did. I'll tell them you are helping others elsewhere,” Mellony said to Bulbasaur, who nodded and hugged her with his vines one last time.Mellony stood and took her leave as Ash and the others waved goodbye. With new friends to join their team as well as rivals, Ash and his friends have now taken a rest for the time being. What else is in store for our heroes as the journey continues...?Meanwhile...We see where the trap Piplup was stuck in currently lies. The sound of heavy boots crushing the grass with each step. A man grumbles as they take what is a charred rope trap and is not happy."It got away." Sucking in his teeth in disappointment. "Who did this?" the man said as he gripped the rope angrily as he stood, soon joined by his Houndoom, who caught the scent of the Pokemon caught in the trap. Now, knowing who their next prey would be."It matters not. Whoever did this just cost me what could be my most valuable target..." he said, gritting his teeth. "They will pay for this."Houndoom snarls, agreeing that they would enjoy the hunt as they often do.Stay tuned.

A Promise Kept Ash's Johto Journey Chapter 72Chapter 72: Whirl Cup Rematch Ash vs. Prima"Human Speech" "Pokemon Speech" 'Telepathy'It's day three of the Whirl Cup, and there are only two more battles of the brackets on Ash and Misty's brackets before the main tournament. Misty and Brock are watching the match from the stands as Ash is ready to fight against Prima, a trainer who Ash has battled in the past and barely did any damage to back then."Now for our first match of the day," the announcer said as Ash and Prima exited the entryway and out to the battlefield. "He's made his way through the tournament with an impressive record. Can he win another? From Pallet Town, give it up for Ash Ketchem," Ash arrived at the battlefield ready to battle Prima."Now for his opponent. She's one of the members of the combined Elite Four of the Kanto and Johto region, a trainer who is as calm as her ice types and has an undefeated record so far. Prima," the announcer said as she arrived at the battlefield, ready to get this match going."Now remember you are allowed upwards of 2 Pokemon for this battle unless you have other means. Now let out your first Pokemon," the ref said to Ash and Prima."Well, Ash, I was hoping we would face each other later in the tournament, but let's see how far you've come since our last battle on Manderan Island. Cloyster, come on out," Prima sent out her first Pokemon."Likewise, Prima, but I learned a lot since our last battle, and this match won't end like last time," Ash said to Prima and pulled out his first Pokeball. "Now, Squirtle, come on out," Ash sent out his first Pokemon as the two Pokemon were staring each other down, ready to fight this battle. On the other hand, Ash knew this fight would be challenging, given that he was up against an Elite Four member, not just a trainer."Squirtle vs. Cloyster, let the match begin," the ref announced."Alright, Squirtle, use Water Gun," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who fired the attack at Cloyster."You haven't changed that much Ash used Barrier and then used Curse Cloyster," Prima commanded her Pokemon, who used the Barrier to do minimal damage and close its shell to use the move Curse; however, it wasn't using it on Squirtle but on the Water/Ice types Ash, on the other hand, had done his homework about the type of usage for that Curse move which Prima noticed and glinted her glasses. "Well, let's see how far you've come when learning from your journey here, now Ice Beam and Spike Cannon Cloyster."Cloyster used both attacks toward Squirtle. "Water Gun, blast all of them," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who blasted all the attacks, causing an explosion. "Now, use Rapid Spin and Skull Bash Squirtle," Ash commanded him and spun towards and landed both attacks sending Cloyster out of the water as the attack did some pretty good damage."Humph, I see that I need to take another approach to this," Prima said as she saw Ash's deminer was calmer than his battle style when they first battled a while back. "I see he's no longer forcing his moves and takes what I said personally, but don't think that that won't be easy to beat me," Prima thought."I have to keep her Cloyster on its toes and try to step ahead of Prima. I owe you one thing, Prima. That day made me realize that I need to grow, not just win battles and learn from my mistakes," Ash thought. "Squirtle, use Hydro Pump and Rapid Spin now," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who used the two moves, and the Rapid Spin sped it up at Cloyster."Aurora Beam now," Prima commanded her Pokemon, who fired the attack at Squirtle, hitting mid-flight, who was in a struggle towards the Water/Ice type. "Spike Cannon now, before it can recover from the struggle," Prima commanded her Pokemon, who fired the attack as Ash knew that she might do this, which was the trap that Prima noticed. "Fire quickly.""Squirtle Rapid Spin gets faster, and then use Skull Bash before its shell closes," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who charged right at the opened shell Cloyster, where it was the most vulnerable, and landed a square blow before it could launch its attack and sent straight into the wall hard knocking it out."Cloyster is unable to battle Squirtle wins," the ref announced. Ash was happy but let his water starter celebrate as he earned it. Prima returned her Pokemon to its ball, and suddenly Squirtle started to glow and evolved into a Wartortle, which Ash and everyone were surprised by."Squirtle, you evolved; that's great. You earned it, boy," Ash said to Wartortle, who nodded and turned to Ash."Thanks, Ash, this is only the beginning of my growth, and I won't let you down, but that battle did a good number on me," Wartortle said to Ash, who nodded as they heard Prima giggle at this and was impressed by this scene."I see you have grown since our last bought, Ash thinking fast and letting your Pokemon do what they want in terms of battle, so far you've impressed me so far, and I wished that our last battle would've been this interesting," Prima said to Ash as she pulled out her Pokeball. "Now for my main partner, Lapras, come on out," Prima sent out her last Pokemon.Ash knew that the real battle began now and turned to Wartortle worried. "You are going to be okay with continuing cause no matter who I choose, and it might be back to you, Wartortle," Ash said to Wartortle, who nodded."I figured that much, Ash. I'll try my best. Not sure who you are planning on using after me, but I'll try my best to do some damage," Wartortle said to Ash, who nodded."Okay, Wartortle uses Hydro Pump," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who went into his shell and spun towards Lapras, who wasn't doing anything as Prima smirked."Now, use Psychic Lapras," Prima commanded her Pokemon, who used the attack to stop the attack. "Now Thunderbolt and end this with Sheer Cold Lapras," Prima commanded her Pokemon, who launched its two attacks, hitting Wartortle by the end of it. Wartortle was covered entirely in ice and was knocked out inside the ice, given how the move was a One-Hit-KO move."Wartortle is unable to battle Lapras wins. The match is now tied with both sides having one Pokemon left," the ref announced as the ice broke, and Wartortle was on the platform as Ash returned him to his ball. Ash sighed. Now it was his turn to run into this move, given Misty had a way around it in her match."You were more predictable during that match, Ash, to think that you could do damage and were desperate to get some advantage in this match, but you know that we Elite Four members aren't the type to fall for this, Ash," Prima said to Ash who sighed as he felt like that was evident but wouldn't let this get to him and pulled out his last Pokeball."Well, it's time for you to take the stage. We did agree to let you take part in some battles. Now let's see how well you can handle this. Come on out," Ash sent out his next Pokemon; Slowbro, Misty, and Brock were surprised. Then again, they noticed he wasn't with them during the match. "Careful, Lapras knows Sheer Cold," Ash said to Slowbro, who nodded."Will do, Ash. Let's get this battle going, and I won't let the team down," Slowbro said to Ash, who nodded and turned to Prima, who was impressed that Ash owned one and could now see how Ash could better understand his Pokemon through battle."Now, Slowbro uses Shadow Ball," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who fired the attack. "Use Future Sight," Ash whispers to Slowbro, whose eyes glowed quickly, hoping that Prima wouldn't notice."You're full of surprises, but I won't fall for it, Ash. Use Sheer Cold to stop them," Prima commanded her Pokemon, now disappointed that Ash would think that he could win like this."Jump in the water before it can get to you, Slowbro, and then use Zap Cannon and Shadow Ball," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who used the Shadow Ball's power to make the electric attack more accurate. It was heading towards Lapras, hitting it."Not bad, Ash, but you won't get back at me that efficiently. Now use Facade on the water Lapras," Prima commanded her Pokemon, who launched its flippers on the water, sending shockwaves towards Slowbro, hitting it."How, I thought it was a physical attack?" Ash said to Prima, who smirked."It is. You see why my Lapras have control over the water as my team's best Water/Ice type. She isn't going to let this get to us, we let you hit us, and now you're seeing her true power," Prima said to Ash, who glared at her. "Now, use Thunderbolt, Lapras," Prima commanded her Pokemon, who was about to launch its attack, only for the Future Sight attack to land from the water and slam Lapras hard, stopping the Thunderbolt as Slowbro came out of the water. Which was panting."Ugh, this is getting bad. We got lucky that we got that Future Sight before Lapras could gain control over that match. Her Lapras is infamous for gaining control over the battlefield, and we can't just let her continue that," Ash thought.'Don't overthink it, Ash,' Slowbro said telepathy to Ash in his head, which hid that he could hear it. 'You might not have noticed it, but Lapras is struggling to keep up with her moves after Zap Cannon hits her, meaning that I did more damage than Prima thinks,' Slowbro finished as Ash noticed and knew that this match while was one-sided at first is more evenly matched."Alright, use Shadow Ball now," Ash commanded him, who fired the attack at Lapras, who was recovering from the attack and was mad."Thunderbolt now," Prima commanded her Pokemon as her cool, calm deminer vanished. This was a more challenging battle than she thought. Who fired the attack at the Shadow Ball? "Now use Psychic," Prima commanded Lapras, who used the attack at Slowbro."Future Sight, and then use your own Psychic to cancel it out," Ash commanded as the two attacks clashed in a mental struggle between them. "Now Brick Break, Slowbro," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who stopped the attack and charged at Lapras."Trying to end this quickly, I see, huh, Ash? I'll be happy to end this right now. Sheer Cold, end this, Lapras," Prima commanded her Pokemon, who fired the attack at the charging Slowbro."Jump now, Slowbro," Ash commanded his Pokemon, who jumped out of the Sheer Cold attack before it could hit him as he was going after Lapras."Thunderbolt now, Lapras," Prima commanded her Pokemon, who launched the attack. At the same time, the Pokemon slammed the attack right into the electric attack Slowbro was going deeper down to where Lapras was and slammed his fist into Lapras, and the Future Sight hit her, causing a massive explosion.Prima and Ash covered their faces as the shockwaves were strong from the three attacks clashing. Lapras and Slowbro stood still and panting while Slowbro flinched as he was Paralyzed; Lapras, on the other hand, couldn't take it anymore and fell its head forward, knocked out as both Ash and Prima were surprised by this."Lapras is unable to battle Slowbro wins, and the winner of this round is Ash Ketchem from Pallet Town," the ref announced as Slowbro landed on his knees and was about to pass out as Ash returned him to his ball to prevent more issues as Prima returned her Pokemon to its ball and left as did Ash.Both of them got their Pokemon healed. Ash sighed, noticing that Slowbro's power had also faded in his head. Misty and Brock Prima noticed this as Ash explained the situation."I see, so he helped you guys understand Pokemon, and this was his first battle since he joined your team," Prima said as Ash and the others nodded as she smiled. "Well, this is new from how a trainer sees the Pokemon world; while you still have a way to go from being the best trainer to growing as one, you have earned my respect from our last battle. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors, and maybe one day we can have a league match," Prima said as Ash nodded."Well, I have done more after we left the Orange Islands. Prima and I still care for my Pokemon and learn from my mistakes and past. But I agree that I still have aways away from being at your level as a trainer," Ash said to Prima, who shook her head."You already have gotten there, Ash. Learning from your mistakes is the first attempt at getting to be the best trainer in the world, and remember that your Pokemon earns these victories, not just you, and so far, you're showing it," Prima said to Ash, who was about to say something only for hearing the ding for the Pokemon being healed as Slowbro and Wartortle and Prima's two Pokeballs were delivered to the group."Your Pokemon healed and are now ready to go through. Slowbro still needs some time for his powers to be back online," Joy said to Ash and Prima though the last part was towards Ash, who nodded as he took his Pokemon, as did Prima as Joy took her leave."That's my cue to head back home. I'll see you around, Ash, and wish you the best of luck in the Whirl Cup," Prima said as she left. Ash nodded and sighed."As calm and collective as always, Prima never changed, that's for sure," Ash said to the group, who nodded as Ash turned to Slowbro. "You going to be okay being out of the match for a little while, Slowbro?" Ash asked him.'It's telepathy for a while until my powers are ready to help you guys again, but yes, depending on the trainers, I might as well sit the tournament out for a while, but thanks again for letting me take part in this match Ash,' Slowbro said Telepathically."That's fair. We did have an agreement to have you battle if needed, and you wanted to battle today's match, so you are free to watch the matches from this point onwards unless you want to fight and your powers are back, but when you are ready that is," Ash said to Slowbro who nodded. The tournament continued as Sissy made it to the next round and will be the next trainer who Ash will be up against when this round is over. Misty's bracket was coming up, and her match against Crasher Wake would be the first match of the next bracket. With Ash's battle now over, it's Misty's turn to face off against the Crasher Wake in the Whirl Cup. What else is in store for our heroes? As the Whirl Cup continues.Meanwhile, with the Charizards group back on the fourth Island. The group took a break from the battle training and showed speed by racing. While Pidgeot was holding back even, Charizard was barely catching up, while Dragonair was impressively catching up with Pidgeot even with Pidgeot using half her speed."Wow, Dragonair, whatever that move you used earlier really is catching up with me," Pidgeot told Dragonair, who giggled."Why is it between you and me that you inherit Dragon's Dance? I'm the oldest between you and me?" Charizard said to Dragonair."Cause I trained under Grandmother and big sister, and you could've learned that if you didn't leave and trained under father or be a starter right away," Dragonair said to Charizard, who knew she was teasing him though it took a blow to his pride.Charizard was catching up with the two and wasn't watching where he was going and tripped over a rock and fell hard. Dragonair stopped worried and offered her tail to help him up, which he happily accepted and got up. "Thanks, sis. Maybe you can teach me that move when we are done since we are training together," Charizard said as Dragonair nodded and noticed something."Uh, Charizard, you might want to move," Dragonair said, pointing her tail to his right leg. Charizard looked down and noticed that Pidgeot was starting to go full Moltres anger-wise, given how Charizard wasn't aware that he landed on her as Dragonair and Charizard had a sweatdrop, and Charizard moved his leg."Sorry, Pidgeot, I didn't notice that I fell on you. I thought you were ahead of us," Charizard said to Pidgeot, who glared at him."Did you not notice that you were standing on something you oath, your lucky that your sister pointed me out," Pidgeot said, furious at Charizard as Charizard tried to calm her down."No, I didn't know that you were under me, given your size, and I thought it was a rock," Charizard said, which was the wrong thing to say to Pidgeot, and Dragonair noticed."Uh, bro, you might want to stop where you are ahead before you say something you will regret," Dragonair said to Charizard."Are you calling me fat Charizard, comparing me to a rock?" Pidgeot said to Charizard, who was shaking his head. "You of all mon's should know not to call females like that, Charizard especially given you have three sisters," Pidgeot yelled. Now her feathers were burning like no tomorrow as Charizard was about to say something, only for Pidgeot to peck Charizard repeatedly on his face hammering the point she was mad even more than when she met Dragonair. "Let's finish this race and move on, Charizard; you better not speak to me for the rest of the day," Pidgeot said as she took off.Charizard was red in the face but not for the embarrassment but how he felt about that peck, and his tail flame showed it as Dragonair shook her head at this."Word of advice, brother, we females don't like when you discuss our weight, and being a female myself, I don't blame Pidgeot," Dragonair said to Charizard, who sighed and nodded. "Come on, we can't let her beat us, but talk to her in a few days when she calms down," Dragonair said as he nodded and took off with her.The race sadly ends with Pidgeot winning, barely even with Dragonair's speed boast. "Your speed is pretty good, even me holding back, so let's rest for the rest of the day. I'm in no mood to train right now, and we'll continue tomorrow," Pidgeot said to Dragonair and Charizard. However, neither could blame her Charizard kept quiet and let Pidgeot be as they went to eat and let things be. Charizard knew that he had to apologize for what happened.Stay Tuned.

Hello ! :) I was thinking... Isn't it a bit too "restrictive" to allow only 1 submission per week ? I watch the group and it doesn't seem at all to be a lot of works submitted to put such a limit. But it's just my opinion, it's just that I really like to share my work in groups ! :)
